Kyler Rugg Death, Obituary: 17-Year-Old Dies After SUV Rollover in Henry County
The community of Wayland and surrounding areas in southeastern Iowa are mourning the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old Kyler Rugg, who died following a devastating rollover crash Friday afternoon.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred around 1:40 p.m. on February 13, 2026, in the 1700 block of Franklin Avenue, south of Trenton in Henry County. Authorities say Kyler was driving a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder southbound when he failed to navigate a curve. The vehicle lost control and rolled multiple times before coming to rest.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided aid at the scene. Due to the severity of his injuries, Kyler was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for advanced medical treatment. Despite the efforts of healthcare personnel, he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Officials confirmed he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The loss of the young teen has deeply impacted the close-knit Wayland community. Friends, classmates, teachers, and loved ones remember Kyler for the light he brought into their lives.
