Driver Identified in Fatal Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Crash
Officials with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel have identified the driver who died in a tragic crash Sunday morning as 61-year-old Ronnie Andrews of Robersonville.
According to authorities, the single-vehicle crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. near the North Channel Bridge on the southbound span, just south of Fisherman Island. Officials reported that the tractor-trailer went over the west side of the bridge. Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the incident prompted an immediate investigation.
In a statement, Perdue Farms confirmed that Andrews was one of their employees.
“We are heartbroken to confirm that a Perdue driver died following an accident on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. He had been a valued member of our team, and his loss will be deeply felt across our organization.
We are cooperating fully with authorities as they continue their investigation,” the company said.
Officials noted that weather was not considered a factor in the crash, citing low winds, no rain, and clear visibility at the time. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
Family members, friends, and colleagues are mourning the sudden loss of Ronnie Andrews, remembering him as a valued member of both his community and workplace. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
