Abilene Woman and Eula ISD Student Killed in Highway 36 Crash
A tragic crash on Highway 36 Wednesday evening claimed the lives of an Abilene woman and an 11-year-old student from Eula Independent School District.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Kaley Loren DeMasters, 36, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at the scene near FM 603 around 7:30 p.m. The young student, whose identity has not been released, died while being transported to a local hospital.
Authorities say the crash occurred when DeMasters allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with an 18-wheeler. The truck driver sustained only minor injuries in the accident.
In response to the tragedy, Eula ISD released a statement:
“We are grieving the loss of a student in our district following a tragic car accident. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, classmates, and staff affected by this loss.”
Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the cause and any contributing factors.
This incident has left the community mourning, as residents remember the lives lost in this devastating collision.
