Producer of Tehran Found Dead in Athens Hotel While Overseeing Filming

Dana Eden, co-creator and producer of the Israeli spy drama Tehran, has been found dead in a hotel in Athens while overseeing production of the show’s upcoming season. She was 52.

According to reports, Eden was discovered in her hotel room by her brother after she failed to respond to his messages. Greek authorities are investigating the cause of death, with an autopsy expected. Local media outlets have reported that there is currently no indication of foul play.

A tribute was shared by her production company, Dana & Shula Productions, which she co-owned with Shula Spiegel. The company said it was “shocked and saddened” by her sudden passing, describing Eden as a gifted creator with an international reputation. The statement also firmly denied online speculation suggesting criminal or nationalistic motives, calling such claims “baseless” and urging the public to respect the family’s privacy.

Tehran, which streams on Apple TV+, won an International Emmy Award in 2021 for Best Drama Series. The show has starred acclaimed actors including Glenn Close and Hugh Laurie in later seasons. Production for the fourth season was underway in Athens, which serves as a stand-in for Tehran due to filming restrictions.

The Israel Broadcasting Corporation also paid tribute, honoring Eden’s lasting impact on Israeli television. Authorities continue to gather evidence as the investigation proceeds.
