Easter Morning Shooting Outside Anderson Bar Leaves Man Dead, Woman Injured

An early-morning shooting on Easter Sunday outside a bar in Anderson has left one man dead and a woman injured, according to police.

Authorities identified the victim as Montario D. Peoples, 34, who died from multiple gunshot wounds, as confirmed by Madison County Coroner Adam Matson.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 2:43 a.m. to Bourbon Street Sports Bar & Grill, located in the 800 block of East 53rd Street, following reports of a shooting involving individuals inside a vehicle.

Upon arrival, police found Peoples inside the vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

A woman who was also inside the vehicle sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police said her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. Other individuals in the vehicle were not injured.

Preliminary findings indicate that multiple rounds were fired into the vehicle from outside, striking Peoples, who was seated in the driver’s seat at the time of the incident.

Detectives with the Anderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are actively following up on leads as the investigation continues.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Tips can be provided directly to law enforcement or submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
