A welfare check in Natchez turned into a homicide investigation after a woman was found dead inside her home.
Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded on April 4 after a family member reported they couldn’t reach their loved one. When they arrived at the home on Melanie Road, the situation quickly escalated.
The woman was later found dead, and authorities confirmed it was a homicide.
Investigators have arrested Zachary Lavel Jackson Jr., 29, in connection with the case. He is being held at the Adams County Jail and faces charges including murder, mayhem, and tampering with evidence.
The victim has been identified as Lana Brown Bradley, a retired educator and well-known member of the community. Officials say the suspect is related to her family.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case as authorities continue to investigate what led to her death.
