A deadly shooting at Leinbach Park in Winston-Salem has left two teenagers dead and five others injured, according to police.
The incident happened Monday morning around 9:52 a.m., when officers were called to the park following reports of a fight. While on the way, police were informed that gunshots had been fired and multiple people had been hit.
When officers arrived, they found several victims and others fleeing the area. Investigators say the situation began as a planned fight involving a group of juveniles but quickly escalated into gunfire.
The two victims who died have been identified as 17-year-old Erubey Romero Medina and 16-year-old Daniel Jimenez Millian. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Five other people were injured in the shooting, including three teenage girls, an 18-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman. Their injuries range from minor to critical.
Police say some of the injured individuals may have also been involved in the shooting, but that has not been confirmed.
At this time, no arrests have been made, and no suspects are in custody. Detectives are continuing to investigate what led to the violence and are working to identify those responsible.
Nearby schools were briefly placed on a secure hold as a precaution, but officials say the incident was contained to the park.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
