Buffalo Police Officer, Lance Woods, Charged with Second-Degree Murder of Alexis Skoczylas in Niagara County

A Buffalo police officer has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the death of a woman found inside a home Saturday.

According to the Lewiston Police Department, officers conducted a welfare check at a residence on Buffalo Street in Sanborn. Upon arrival, they discovered 35-year-old Alexis Skoczylas deceased inside the home.

Authorities arrested 53-year-old Lance Woods, identified as an officer with the Buffalo Police Department. Woods has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and is currently being held at the Niagara County Jail pending arraignment.

In a statement posted to social media, the Buffalo Police Department noted that Woods was promoted to the rank of detective in 2017.

Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
