Deadly Shooting in Richmond Leaves Teen Dead, Mother and Sister Fighting for Their Lives
A heartbreaking act of violence in Richmond has left a family shattered, with one teen dead and two others critically injured.
According to the Richmond Police Department, officers responded Tuesday morning to reports of a shooting at a home on the 3100 block of 5th Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered three victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Eighteen-year-old Zion Terry was pronounced dead. His 14-year-old sister, Sadie Terry, along with their mother, Tiffany Terry, were both rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Sadie Terry later died due to the injuries.
Investigators say the shooting appears to stem from a domestic situation. Police have identified Levy Nelson, 41, as the suspect. Authorities say he had a relationship with Tiffany Terry, and the two share children.
Nelson is currently wanted and is considered armed and dangerous. He was last seen driving a gray Ford F-150 pickup truck. Police are urging anyone who sees him not to approach but to contact 911 immediately.
School Community in Mourning
The loss has deeply impacted John Marshall High School, where Zion Terry was a student.
In a message to families, Principal Murray expressed sorrow and reassured the community that support will be available:
“This tragedy has deeply affected our school community. In the days ahead, we will focus on supporting our students and staff as they process this loss.
Crisis support teams will be available, and we are encouraging families to check in on their children and seek help if needed.
We remain committed to standing together and supporting one another through this difficult time.”
Investigation Continues
Police say a firearm has been recovered, though it has not yet been confirmed if it was the weapon used. The search for Nelson remains ongoing as investigators work to determine exactly what led to the shooting.
🕊️ As the investigation continues, the Richmond community is left grieving the loss of a young life while hoping for healing for those still fighting to survive.
