Three victims have now been identified following a deadly shooting at a block party in Ocilla, Georgia, that left one person dead and others injured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed it is assisting the Ocilla Police Department in the investigation. The shooting occurred near the intersection of East 10th Street and North McKinley Street.
Authorities said several people were found with gunshot wounds at the scene and were taken to nearby hospitals. One of the victims, 19-year-old Marquavius Westbrook, died from his injuries.
Family members say Westbrook was simply attending the party to have a good time before the situation turned tragic.
Among those injured is 31-year-old Hilary Curtis, who was shot on her birthday. According to her father, she underwent surgery and is now recovering, with expectations of a full recovery.
A third victim, 20-year-old Damonee Crumedy, was also injured in the shooting and remains in the hospital.
Officials say they are still working to determine if there were any additional victims.
Ocilla Mayor Melvin D. Harper II described the incident as “senseless” and expressed condolences to the victim’s family. He also said the city is committed to seeking justice and ensuring accountability.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as the investigation continues.
Family members are also calling for justice and urging an end to gun violence in the community.
The case remains under active investigation.
