Megan Whiting Fatally Shot by Police in Northfield After Reported Domestic Incident

A 27-year-old woman has died following an officer-involved shooting in Northfield, New Hampshire, early Monday morning.

Authorities identified the woman as Megan L. Whiting.

According to officials, police were called to an apartment at 20 Vine Street around 12:12 a.m. on April 6, 2026, after receiving a 911 call reporting a violent domestic disturbance.

The caller told dispatchers that Whiting was allegedly assaulting another resident, including hitting the victim with a fire extinguisher and damaging property inside the apartment. Dispatchers also reported hearing yelling in the background of the call.

Officers from Northfield and Tilton police departments arrived at the scene within minutes.

Police said that when officers entered the apartment, they found Whiting holding a knife and standing close to an injured female resident.

Authorities stated that officers gave multiple commands for her to drop the weapon, but she did not comply. An officer then fired his weapon, striking Whiting.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured woman was safely removed from the apartment and received medical attention.

An autopsy later determined that Whiting died from multiple gunshot wounds. Officials said no officers or other civilians were injured during the incident.

The investigation is being handled by the office of Attorney General John M. Formella, and remains ongoing.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the officer involved, and further details are expected after the investigation is completed.
