A man has died and a suspect is now in custody following a shooting at a gathering in the Needham community, east of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
According to the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to 6888 Highway 18 East around 1:30 a.m. Sunday after reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found a man identified as Courtney Mullins dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound. Authorities believe he was from Mississippi County.
During the investigation, deputies identified a suspect as Demetri Allen. He was later arrested on Monday during a traffic stop along Interstate 55 near the Mississippi-Crittenden County line.
Allen is currently being held in the Craighead County Detention Center and has been charged with first-degree murder. He is expected to appear in court later this week.
Officials say the shooting happened outside in a parking lot during a large gathering at the location. Investigators are still working to determine what led to the incident.
Authorities also noted that law enforcement has responded to calls at the same address in the past.
The event had reportedly been promoted on social media as a weekend gathering featuring live performances and VIP sections.
The investigation remains ongoing.
