Family Speaks Out After Deadly Block Party Shooting, GBI Investigating

A deadly shooting at a block party in Ocilla, Georgia, has left one person dead and another fighting for their life, as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed it has been called in by the Ocilla Police Department to assist with the investigation. The shooting happened near the intersection of East 10th Street and North McKinley Street.

Police say several people were found with gunshot wounds at the scene and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. One of the victims, Marquavious Da’shawn Westbrook, later died from his injuries.

Family members say Westbrook was simply attending a party and was not involved in any trouble. His aunt, Wendy Fleming, described him as a respectful and kind young man who always had a smile on his face. She said the family is still in shock and struggling to come to terms with the loss.

Fleming also made an emotional appeal to the public, urging people to put an end to gun violence. She said she does not understand where all the hate is coming from and called the situation heartbreaking for families who lose their loved ones.

Another victim, identified as 20-year-old Damonee Crumedy, was also shot during the incident and is currently in critical condition. He is being treated in the intensive care unit at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center.

His mother, Tequesta Crumedy, said seeing her son in that condition has been extremely difficult. She described the shooting as senseless and asked people to pray for her son as he continues to fight for his life. She also expressed sympathy for the family of the victim who died.

Authorities say the case remains under active investigation, and no information about suspects has been released at this time. Officials are still working to determine what led to the shooting and how many people were involved.

The community continues to wait for answers as the investigation unfolds. More details are expected to be released as they become available.
