Dayton Educator Leroy “Flip” Hall Remembered for Lifelong Impact in Music and Education

The Dayton community is honoring the life of Leroy M. “Flip” Hall, who passed away on January 31, 2026, at the age of 71.

A proud graduate of Roosevelt High School, Kentucky State University, and the University of Dayton, Hall dedicated his career to education. He taught in the Dayton Public Schools system until his retirement in 2010.

Known for his infectious enthusiasm, Hall’s passion for music was evident in his classrooms, school concerts, halftime performances, and church choir contributions. He was a devoted member of Wayman Chapel A.M.E Church and a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, which he joined while attending Kentucky State University.

Hall was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Clara Hall; his niece, Karmen Newman; and nephews Fadel McCullar and Derrick Davis.

He is survived by his brother Craig W. Hall (Penny); sisters Georgie Underwood, Joan Woods, Stacey Dyer (Eric), and Amy Mitchell (Thomas); nephew Corey W. Hall; nieces Tonya Hall, Kimberly Washington (Byron), Jennifer McCullar, and Ebony Searcy-Hathcock (Antwaun); along with a host of cousins, great-nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Service Arrangements

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Wayman Chapel A.M.E Church, 3317 Hoover Avenue, with Rev. Gerald A. Cooper officiating. Viewing will take place from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at West Memory Gardens.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at Hospice of Dayton for their professionalism, care, and kindness during Hall’s final days.

Leroy “Flip” Hall leaves behind a legacy of music, mentorship, and meaningful impact that will resonate throughout the Dayton community for years to come.
