An early-morning shooting on a major highway in Chicago caused significant disruption during the start of Thursday’s commute.
According to Illinois State Police, troopers responded to reports of a shooting around 4:30 a.m. along the southbound lanes of Interstate 94 near 111th Street.
Authorities say the victim, now identified as Jamonte Dominguez, managed to transport themselves to a hospital following the incident. At this time, the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
Due to the investigation, several lanes of the Bishop Ford Freeway were temporarily shut down, causing delays for early commuters. All lanes were later reopened by approximately 6:35 a.m.
Details surrounding what led to the shooting remain unclear, and no information about suspects has been released.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances behind the incident.
