A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the city of Shreveport after a domestic dispute turned into one of the deadliest incidents the community has ever faced.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers responded to a call around 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. What they encountered was devastating—10 people had been shot across multiple locations.
Eight of the victims were children, ranging in age from just 1 year old to 14. Two adult women also sustained gunshot wounds and survived, though one remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say the situation began as a domestic disturbance but quickly escalated into mass violence. The crime scene stretched across four locations, including two homes, a carjacking site, and the location where the suspect was later confronted.
Family members and close sources have identified the suspected shooter as Shamar Elkins. Investigators believe he was the father of some of the children involved.
After the shooting, the suspect reportedly fled the scene, carjacked a vehicle, and led police on a pursuit into Bossier City. The chase ended in an exchange of gunfire, where the suspect was fatally shot. Authorities are still working to determine whether his death was caused by police gunfire or self-inflicted.
One of the surviving victims, identified as Shaneiqua Elkins, is believed to have been in a relationship with the suspect and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
